Industrial production in Germany increased 2% month-over-month in January 2025, rebounding from a 1.5% decline in December 2024 and beating market expectations of a 1.5% increase. The strongest boost came from the automotive sector (+6.4%), while the food industry (+7.5%) and machine maintenance and assembly (+15.6%) also contributed positively. On the other hand, output in the manufacture of fabricated metal products contracted by 7.7%, and energy production fell by 0.5%. The less volatile three-month-on-three-month comparison showed that industrial production stagnated in the period from November 2024 to January 2025. On a yearly basis, industrial output declined by 1.6%.
