Vietnam’s trade surplus on goods declined slightly to USD 3.03 billion in January 2025, down from USD 3.63 billion in the same month last year. This marked the eighth consecutive month of gains in merchandise trade, with exports falling more than imports due to the Lunar New Year holidays. Exports shrank by 4.3% compared to a year earlier, totaling USD 33.09 billion, while imports dropped 2.6% to USD 30.06 billion. Total shipments of processed industrial goods reached USD 29.43 billion, accounting for 89.0% of total exports. Meanwhile, imports of production materials totaled USD 28.26 billion, representing 94.0% of total purchases. The US was Vietnam's largest export market, with a turnover of USD 9.8 billion, while China was the country's largest import market, with a turnover of USD 11.6 billion. In 2024, the country registered a surplus of USD 24.77 billion.
