The ISM Services PMI in the US declined to 52.1 in November 2024 from 56 in October and well below forecasts of 55.5. The reading pointed to the slowest growth in the services sector in three months, driven by an ease in business activity (53.7 vs 57.2), new orders (53.7 vs 57.4), employment (51.5 vs 53) and supplier deliveries (49.5 vs 56.4, indicating faster performance). In addition, inventories (45.9 vs 56.4) and backlog of orders (47.1 vs 47.7) declined and prices pressures increased slightly (58.2 vs 58.1). "Generally, respondents’ comments were neutral to positive, and both positive and negative impacts were attributed to seasonality. Not surprisingly, election ramifications and tariffs were mentioned often, with cautionary outlooks related to the potential impact on respondents’ specific industries”, Steve Miller, Chair of the ISM Services Business Survey Committee said.
