Industrial production in the US fell by 0.6% from the previous month in July of 2024, the most in six months, erasing the downwardly revised 0.3% expansion from June and marking a sharper contraction than the 0.3% drop expected by markets. Manufacturing output, which makes up nearly 80% of total production, declined by 0.3% in July following the stall in the earlier period. In the meantime, mining output remained unchanged, but utility generation sank by 3.7%. In turn, capacity utilization fell by 0.6 percentage points to 77.8%.
