Capacity utilization in the US fell to 77.8% in July 2024, marking a 3-Month low, from a downwardly revised 78.4% in June and below forecasts of 78.5%. The rate is now 1.9 percentage points below its long-run average. Capacity utilization for manufacturing moved down to 77.2%, a rate that is 1.1 percentage points below its long-run average. Moreover, the operating rate for mining was unchanged at 88.8%, while the operating rate for utilities stepped down to 71%. The rate for mining was 2.3 percentage points above its long-run average, while the rate for utilities remained substantially below its long-run average.
