Thailand's trade balance shifted to a small deficit of USD 0.01 billion in December 2024 from a surplus of USD 0.98 billion surplus in the same month of the previous year, missing market estimates of a USD 0.29 billion gain as exports grew much less than imports. Sales increased 8.7% from a year earlier to USD 24.77 billion, the sixth consecutive month of expansion, above market forecasts and November's print of an 8.2% rise. Meanwhile, purchases jumped by 14.9% to USD 24.78 billion, the seventh straight month of growth, accelerating sharply from a 0.9% rise in November, surpassing market estimates of a 13.7% rise. For the entire year of 2024, the trade balance registered a deficit of USD 6.28 billion, with exports growing by 5.4%, less than the 6.3% rise in imports.
