Gross foreign exchange reserves in South Africa dropped to $63.028 billion in October 2024, down from September’s record high of $63.633 billion. Decreases were observed in SDR holdings ($6.310 billion vs $6.427 billion in September) and foreign currency reserves ($45.515 billion vs $46.551 billion). On the other hand, gold reserves rose ($11.203 vs $10.655 billion). Additionally, the forward position, which represents the central bank’s unsettled or swap transactions, edged up to $0.538 billion in October from $0.534 billion in the previous month.
