The trade surplus in the Netherlands widened to EUR 10.7 billion in July 2024, up from EUR 9.8 billion in the same month of the previous year. Exports rose 5.6% year-on-year to EUR 71.1 billion, driven by higher sales from EU (4.1%) and non-EU countries (7.6%). Among commodities, exports were particularly higher for raw materials (20.3%), manufactures (18.1%), chemical products (17.8%), and food & live animals (17.3%). Meanwhile, imports grew at a softer 4.9% to EUR 60.4 billion, with purchases rising by 5.1% in the EU and 4.8% in the non-EU countries. Imports notably rose for animals & vegetables (21.4%), raw materials (18%), and food & live animals (16.4%). Considering January to July, the trade surplus increased to EUR 87.63 billion from EUR 69.63 billion in the corresponding period last year.
