Moldova’s trade deficit widened to a new record high of USD 606.1 million in February 2025 from USD 425.2 million in the same month last year, as exports dropped while imports surged. Year-on-year, exports plunged by 17.7% to USD 269.1 million, dragged down by lower sales to CIS (-29.4%), EU (-16.9%), and other countries (-16.5%). Meanwhile, imports climbed by 16.3% to USD 875.2 million, driven by higher purchases from CIS (12.5%) and EU countries (35.1%), while imports from other countries (-3.1%) fell. For the first two months of the year, the country’s trade shortfall increased to USD 1,083.2 million from USD 774.4 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.
