The annual inflation rate in Italy rose to 1.9% in March of 2025 from 1.6% in the earlier month, the highest in 18 months, but revised lower from the preliminary estimate of 2%. The increase marked the continued stabilization of price growth among major parts of the Italian consumer basket that underwent periods of surges and plunges amid energy and food shocks after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Non-regulated energy prices rebounded (0.7% vs -1.9% in February), while they rose at a faster pace for tobacco (4.6% vs 4.1%), non-processed food (3.3% vs 2.9%), and recreational and cultural services (3.5% vs 3.1%). In turn, regulated energy inflation slowed (27.2% vs 31.4%). Annual core inflation, which excludes energy and fresh good, was unchanged from the previous month at 1.7%. From the previous month, the CPI rose by 0.2%.
