The annual inflation rate in France slowed to 0.9% in August 2025 from 1% in July, confirming preliminary estimates. The moderation was mainly due to slower growth in services prices (2.1% vs 2.5%), alongside a slightly larger drop in manufactured goods prices (-0.3% vs -0.2%). Energy prices fell at a more moderate pace (-6.2% vs -7.2%), while food (1.6%) and tobacco (4.0%) prices rose at the same rate as in July. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.4%, in line with initial data and up from a 0.2% gain in July. This was driven by a rebound in manufactured goods prices (1.3% vs -2.4%), notably clothing and footwear (5.6% vs -9.3%) following the end of summer sales, and a modest rise in services prices (0.2% vs 1.3%). Food prices also rose 0.3% after remaining stable. Meanwhile, the annual harmonized inflation rate slowed to 0.8% from 0.9% in July, while the monthly HICP rose 0.5%, up from 0.3%.
