Chile logged a trade surplus of $2,390 million in December 2024, up from $1,785 million in the corresponding period of the previous year. This was the largest trade surplus in almost a year, as exports jumped by 18.9% year-on-year to a three-year high of $9,422 million, on higher shipments of mining products (+8.9%), notably copper (+12.8%), silver (+103.5%) and gold (+45.6%). Exports also increased sharply for agriculture, forestry & fishing (+103%), mostly fruits (+105%); and manufactured products (+15.9%). Meanwhile, imports rose by 14.6% to $7,032 million, driven by purchases of consumer goods (+15.6%), intermediate goods (+11.1%) and capital goods (+25.1%).
